Boasting north Texas’ first and only all vegan storefront – Vegan Freak, and stealing recent headlines about an all vegan university café at UNT, there’s little hiding the fact that Denton is an up-and-coming star in the DFW vegan scene. Further evidence of that fact was found during a recent visit to the Denton Vegan Co-op, an organization formed in March of this year serving up fantastic vegan grub to hungry visitors at the Denton Community Market.
Denton Vegan Co-op offers a variety of vegan items such as biscuits & gravy, barbecue seitan sandwiches, and “cheesy” nachos at the market. In addition, their ample selection of baked goods are also available at Denton Jupiter House Coffee locations.
The Denton Vegan Co-op, a worker cooperative following the seven co-operative principles, works with the Peace Kitchen to bring its goods to the Denton community and hopes to bring their talents to a restaurant in the near future. Co-op member Nicki Roseman says the vision for a future restaurant might include things such as “a garden that provides for the restaurant, a juice bar, down home favorite cooked and baked menu items that anyone can enjoy (vegan or not) and so much more.”
Of course that sounds like a glorious future – but until that vision is realized, be sure to check out their delicious offerings at the Denton Community Market, Saturdays 9am – 2pm (through Oct 29, 2011).
