Keynote Speaker: Afya Ibomu, Holistic Nutritionist, Author, and CEO of NATTRAL.com
Afya has been a vegetarian since 1990. Her third book, the Vegan Soul Food Guide to the Galaxy , was nominated for an African American Literary Award for cookbook of the year. Afya is certified in Holistic Health and holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition. She is also the author of the Get Your Crochet On! pattern book series, that has sold over 20,000 copies. Afya is a celebrity nutritionist and crochet designer working with hip hop artists such as Erykah Badu, Common, Dead Prez and Talib Kweli. Afya currently lives in Atlanta with her husband, stic.man of Dead Prez and their eleven year-old son Itwela.

Dr. Chasmawala’s educational background includes a 2002 Doctor of Osteopathy from the University of North Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2004 she received her Masters in Public Healthfrom UNT’s School of Public Health where her research focused on eating disorders. She completed her residency at Houston’s Christus St. Joseph Family Practice Residency Program in 2005. Her dual educational background, continuing medical education endeavors and interest in weight management complement her goal to properly address her patients’ needs of all ages. She is fluent in Spanish, Hindi, and Gujarati.
Dr. Chasmawala is from a large family with one sister and two brothers. The family has resided in Fort Worth, Texas since 1986. She now lives in Dallas, enjoys the wealth of activities available, and is still close to her family. She is an avid runner and in the past has participated in the Cowtown Half-Marathon and Danskin Triathlon among other events. She lives what she "preaches" regarding nutrition and exercise. Dr. Chasmawala follows a vegetarian lifestyle.
