Dallas Vegan Pizza

In case you didn’t know, the last Saturday in June is Vegan Pizza Day. To help plan for this special day (or any special day you’re hankering for a vegan pizza), we’ve put together this handy list of vegan pizza options in DFW.

My Family’s Pizza (previously Pizza by Marco)

IMG_3367My Family’s Pizza is not only the oldest “pizzeria” in Dallas, but is also the oldest to offer a wide variety of vegan toppings. They have several locations across Dallas and deliver from some locations. Theirs is an extra thin, crispy style pizza – usually with a slightly charred bottom that holds up well to extra tonnage of vegan toppings and veggies.

pizza LOUNGE

CIMG3049pizza LOUNGE may not be the first, but they definitely have the most vegan options out of anyone in town. Not only do they have an extensive selection of vegan pizza toppings such as Daiya Cheese, vegan meats (sausage, pepperoni, soyrizo, etc.), but they expanded the menu to include vegan sandwiches like the Vegan Brat and Vegan Grilled Cheese. The “Dimebag” is one of the favorite of their gourmet pies that can be “veganized” – Spinach, broccolini, and basil with vegan mozzarella.

Il Cane Rosso

It hard to believe anyone not knowing about Il Cane Rosso, the authentic Neapolitan pizza place in Deep Ellum recently featured on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. But what you may not know about Cane Rosso is that they offer vegan cheese to along with a myriad of ever-changing fresh veggies (which would probably cause their Associazone Verace Pizza Napoletana certification to be revoked if anyone in Naples found out, but we’re not telling!).

Mellow Mushroom

Founded in a college town (Georgia Tech circa 1974), Mellow Mushroom is a nationwide pizza chain based on the fact that “college kids depend on the two major food groups known as pizza and beer.” Appropriately, their locations are situated near major universities in the area – Arlington, Denton, and Fort Worth (the one outlier being Southlake, because some suburbs need pizza too). Mellow Mushroom offers vegan cheese as well as different vegan toppings such as tofu and tempeh. This in addition to hoagies and calzones (which can also be made vegan). Oh, and beer. They have lots and lots of beer.

Gepetto’s Pizza

IMG_5631If you’re not close to one of the aforementioned pizza joints, you might be in luck. Gepetto’s Pizza mobile pizza food truck, might come to you! Based out of FW, Gepetto’s offers personal size pizzas with an amazing crust (slightly sweet, a little doughy but crunchy on the outside) – plus, vegan cheese and faux-meat toppings to boot.

Honorable Mention

Serious Pizza

IMG_1417While they don’t have any vegan-specific items on the menu (besides a load of veggies), Serious Pizza in Deep Ellum does advertise a vegan pizza and the price of the pizza includes up to 5 veggie toppings. What’s more, they have an open BYOT (bring-your-own-toppings) policy and won’t stare at you funny for bringing in a bag of vegan cheese and fake meat. Their pizza is also humongous, and quite tasty.

Pizza Lounge’s “Sofa King” is awesome (they’ll sub different items out for others as well!)! Highly recommended!
